dscrd

a.k.a. Discordance

dscrd is a five-piece performance act born in Paris in 2008, oscillating between inconsistent states and controlled patterns. Complex rhythms collide with improvised sound objects, in search of a sound-designed, beautifully imperfect trance.

The band came up through the Paris noise scene of the 2010s. Its first EP was the first release on Dement3d, then came the twelfth act of the Monad series on Stroboscopic Artefacts. Sound design, instrument building and audio software run through all of it, from club sets to installations.

Press

Records

Productions that occasionally feel like a modern take on the menacing aesthetic of Pan Sonic and Scorn.

Brian Kolada, Resident Advisor, 2014

One of the more distinctive recent electronic releases is Dscrd’s Panopticon, which consciously breaks some of the conventions of electronic music.

Alexei Monroe, Trebuchet, 2014

Their latest EP is nothing short of brilliant, littered with a myriad of intriguing moods and ideas, executed with phenomenal production.

Georgie McVicar, Stray Landings, 2014

Paris’s DSCRD bring music as experimental as their contribution to SA’s Monad series, though their languid tempos stuff the music with delicious dread.

Jordan Rothlein, Resident Advisor, 2013

Dscrd have done a commendable job at making music both frightening for what it possibly reveals, and enjoyable for the audible level of skill invested in it.

Thomas Bey William Bailey, 2014

Bloc de poésie noire, rugueuse et crasseuse dont on ne sort pas tout à fait indemne.

Akitrash, Hartzine, 2014

The Dscrd five-headed hydra closes this demonstrative display of power with the menacing ‘Apparition Hill’.

Inverted Audio, 2014

Live

Normally mundane CCTV footage; images of life passing by – traffic intersections, bored stylists in hair salons, panoramic shots of smaller city skylines […] rolled by as DSCRD’s set moved from minimal and broken to full and undulating.

Juno Daily, Berlin Atonal 2014

The truth is, Dscrd function as a hive-mind – their answers to my questions were not delineated as one person over another, but as a single 5-letter unit: Dscrd.

Georgie McVicar, Stray Landings, Berlin Atonal 2014

Nurse With Wound, Diamond Version et DSCRD nous laissèrent bouche bée, abasourdi par leur live expérimental plein de caractère et de maîtrise.

Scene

We were amazed by their music and the idea of a label became all the more obvious.

François X, Dement3d, to TEA, 2013

Quand on a la chance de découvrir le talent brut de dscrd et d’avoir leurs premiers morceaux entre les mains, la décision de monter un label se prend assez rapidement…

Heartbeat, Dement3d, to Input Selector, 2013

The lineage of Ligovskoï, Voiski, and DSCRD can be traced back to Silicate Musique.

The Quietus, 2014

This is mostly owed to Polar Inertia and DSCRD, whose intriguing electronics make up the first half of the label’s catalogue.
